Change of Season, Change of Focus
GSCS is ready once more to take on a new season of fantastic music but I think we’re mostly glad it’s going to finally cool down (what a hot summer!) Despite the heat, we were out and about all summer long. Our yard sale, performance at Concert on the Commons and Annual Vocal Workshop were again well attended and much enjoyed.
Last season was all about stepping out and doing new things. This season sees us returning to a bit more of a traditional repertoire but with lots of exciting vocal surprises included for our November concerts. “Shout Hallelujah: Songs of Joy and Praise” is a program designed for all music lovers of classic, contemporary, spiritual and gospel choral arrangements that includes works by Mozart, Ola Gjielo, Moses Hogan, Benjamin Britton, our director Dan Roihl and many others. We’re excited to be sharing the many ways praise and joy is expressed in song across many cultures and time periods and looking forward to having you in the audience. Another anticipated event will be the first Chamber Singers “Songs of the Season” concert in December. This auditioned group is planning to get Christmas off to a great start with some wonderful musical holiday highlights at the Rochester Performing Arts Center. And then this spring promises to be equally great once we finalize some important details. You will truly not want to miss any of these performances.
As always, GSCS will be out and about with events such as our extremely popular Shop ‘til You Drop Craft Fair in November and caroling at Strawbery Bank’s Candlelight Stroll in December. So, no matter how you choose to support us; as a singer, an audience member or a financial donor, be sure to bookmark the website and Facebook pages for dates and times so you don’t miss a thing! We so look forward to meeting and telling you about our mission.
Let’s continue to sing together because all our voices make a difference. Change happens within and around us when we blend together in harmony; and then shouting out in Joy and Praise is not all that hard to do when you feel great!
Looking forward to seeing you at rehearsal or from the stage.
